BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's governor is taking a tour
of the state's coastal areas to talk about making sure residents
and officials alike will be ready if a hurricane hits the state.
Gov. Mark Sanford on Monday is making stops in Beaufort, Conway
and North Charleston to discuss preparedness with local emergency
management officials.
The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and runs through
November 30. Forecasters believe it will be less active than last
year, when there were 16 named storms, including eight hurricanes.
Last week, law enforcement officials prepared for a possible
evacuation by practicing lane reversals for highways leading toward
South Carolina's coastline.
