News Channel 7 has confirmed 53 jobs in Greenwood District 50 will be saved because of $2.6 million in federal stimulus money.

Dr. Gary Johnson, assistant superintendent for District 50, says Tuesday six high school teachers, three middle school teachers, 14 elementary teachers and one physical education/related arts teacher jobs are among the positions that will be saved.

In addition, plans for furloughs have been eliminated. Administrators were facing mandatory four day furloughs while teachers would have been forced to take two days off without compensation.

Greenwood District 50 will make an 18.7% cut in funding for athletics.

Johnson says two assistant football coaching jobs have been cut at Greenwood High School and Emerald High School.

Coaching supplements have been cut ten percent across the board in the district along with a 50 percent reduction for supplements for post-season and playoff appearances.

Johnson says the athletic reductions will save $126,000.
