A man who was struck by a SUV while trying to cross Interstate 385 in Laurens County has died, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth of the Highway Patrol says the victim was trying to cross the northbound lane of Interstate 385 when he was struck by a 2002 SUV carrying a utility trailer. The 72-year old man, identified as Alonzo Calwile, had to be airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The accident happened just after 4 pm Wednesday around mile marker 21, just before the Greenville County line. Edgeworth says that he does not expect charges to be filed in the accident, but it remains under investigation.
