FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Ricky Barnes completed a 5-under 65 to take the clubhouse lead in the U.S. Open.
Barnes birdied the eighth hole, his 17th, to pull ahead of Taylor native and Clemson University graduate, Lucas Glover by one shot. Barnes is at 8-under for the 36 holes. He has only made the cut once in four previous Open appearances.
Glover, also a Wade Hampton High School graduate, polished off a bogey free 6-under 64 this morning, finishing up his the final five holes of his round. Mike Weir shot a par 70 and is two shots off the lead.
Tiger Woods began his second round and has some work to do to put himself in position to make the cut. The defending champ opened with a 4-over 74 and trails the clubhouse lead by 12 shots.
More inclement weather is forecast for this afternoon further threatening the tournament schedule that was set back by a deluge Thursday.
