The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is trying to find an escaped prisoner who they say carjacked a woman and her five-year old son.
Investigators say a man forced a woman and her child out of their 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity while it was parked on Hale Street just after 11:00pm Monday.
The victim says the man told her he had a weapon and would kill her if she didn't give up the car. The woman got her child out of the car and the suspect drove away with the vehicle.
Deputies say the suspect in the carjacking matched the description of a suspect who got away from Greenville County Detention Center care at Greenville Hospital System Monday night.
Demetrius Donetello Maddox, 18, was identified by the victim Tuesday morning. Her car was found at 9:45am Tuesday near the intersection of Harvard Street and Anderson Road.
Maddox was being held by authorities for kidnapping, carjacking and petit larceny from a Greenville County case that was reported in November, 2008.
Maddox is now charged with armed robbery for the June 22 carjacking incident.
The victim says Maddox was wearing a white t-shirt and orange pants at the time of the carjacking Monday night. Sheriff's investigators say he's 5'11" and weighs 135 pounds.
Anyone with information concerning Maddox whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
