The news coming out of Union County lately has been bleak lately due in part 1 in 5 being unemployed there.
However this week, there was some good news for those down on their luck.
Dozens of teens and twenty-somethings spent the week volunteering by repairing homes for those who can't afford to.
The volunteers were provided by the Salkehatchie Summer Service Camp, which is put on by the South Carolina United Methodist Conference.
The volunteers spent a week on each home fixing up the yards, roofs, kitchens, etc.
The Salkehatchie Camp members worked on six homes in Union County this week.
Because the need is so great for help in repairing homes in Union County, Grace united Methodist Church has periodic work days to do so. If you'd like to get involved, you can contact the church.
