State Rep. Says He is Concern A.G. Won't Investigate Sanford

»  Comments | Post a Comment

State representative H. Boyd Brown (District 41) has released a statement urging the attorney general Henry McMaster to empanel the state grand jury to look into possible misconduct.

Brown writes "The people of South Carolina and I are not willing to simply trust the word of a man who has admitted to not telling the truth on this very subject and I would hope that you, as Attorney General, would hold a higher standard of truth seeking when deciding whether to conduct an investigation than a press conference and a few media stories. Serous legitimate questions remain."

Brown had written a letter to the attorney general asking the AG to investigate Gov. Sanford's use of public funds.

The letter came the day after Sanford admitted he saw his mistress in Argentina while on a trip with the S.C. Department of Commerce. Sanford has stated that he would reimburse the state for expenses for the Argentina leg of the trip.

Brown writes:

"I therefore request you take immediate and appropriate action to empanel the State Grand Jury to investigate the possible misuse of state property, finances, abuse of power and the negligence of duties in the Office of Governor. The reccent events have left many unanswered questions and I am sure you agree with me that the people of South Carolina expect and deserve an open, honest and transparent government, a standard that should apply from dog catcher all the way up to the office of Governor."
