COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he'll make decisions next week on using federal stimulus money.
Sanford met for about 20 minutes Wednesday with the Senate Republican Caucus in a closed-door session. Occasional laughter could be heard from a hallway outside.
Sanford told reporters that he'll make his decisions next week. Sanford is the chairman of the Republican Governors Association and has been an outspoken critic of federal stimulus efforts.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Hugh Leatherman of Florence said Tuesday he was worried Sanford would let the clock run out on using the money.
Sanford says he's not going to let that happen.
The governor has been looking over the plan to see what it would mean for South Carolina. The state would get about $8 billion dollars from the stimulus. Still, Sanford says it's not enough to transform the state economy.
