District 7 Announces School Choice Open Enrollment & Choice Fair

In Spartanburg School District Seven, it is our belief that students are most successful when they are involved in programs that interest and motivate them. Though our students are assigned to schools based on their residential address, they may apply to a school with a certain focus, a school with a unique program, or another school within the district.

District Seven’s School Choice Program offers parents and students residing in the district the opportunity to request permission to attend a school other than their residentially assigned school. The different programs and focuses offer students unique opportunities to delve deeply into an area that interests them, where students and teachers with common talents and strengths work together. Each one of our schools emphasizes a specialized theme and innovative approach to learning.

The district is in the planning process for the next school year. To plan properly Spartanburg School District Seven has established specific procedures and deadlines for School Choice requests. If parents wish to request to enroll their child in a school other than the one they currently attend, they must complete and submit an Application for School Choice no later than March 20, 2009. Applications may be obtained from the principal of their child’s current school or downloaded at www.spartanburg7.org. Applications will be accepted at the District 7 Administration Building, 610 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC, 29307.

We encourage parents and the community to attend our School Choice Fair on Saturday, March 7, in the Spartanburg High School Atrium anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Every school in the district will be showcasing their specialized theme and innovative approach to learning. In addition, the fair is designed to fully inform the public about school choice in Spartanburg School District Seven.

Dr. Terry Pruitt, Associate Superintendent of School Leadership, Curriculum, & Instruction, commented, “Because every student is different and has unique needs, the Board and administration believe strongly that parents should have a diverse menu of excellently planned program options from which to choose. We have come a long way toward implementing this vision, and we will continue to work toward making District Seven a model for school choice.”
