A volunteer can have a huge impact on a childs life. We work to make a difference in the childs future, to help them overcome the effects of child abuse and have a safe and secure home where they can grow and thrive. We listen carefully when they choose to share their stories. We speak up in courtrooms, so that children can have a voice, and not be forgotten.
Children in the foster care system face many changes. They may be moved to different foster homes, transferred to new schools, change case workers, and often lose contact with their friends and extended family members. The volunteer Guardian ad Litem stays with the child throughout the case, and is often the only person who has remained a constant in the childs life.
If you would like to learn more about how you can make a difference for a child, please join us for a free Informational Session. Volunteers will be available to answer questions, and share their experiences in the program. The session is open to the public, and will be held Thursday, March 26, from 6pm 7pm, at Laurens County Higher Education Center, 663 Medical Ridge Road, Clinton. We need volunteers, male or female who are over 21, of any education, background, ethnicity or race. All that is necessary is the desire to work with children, and the ability to donate 4-6 hours per month to the program.
Our next volunteer training session will begin April 6, 2009.Please call Catherine Beasley at 984-5457 for more information about how you can become a Guardian ad Litem volunteer. You may also visit our web site at www.Laurens.scgal.org for more information or to download an application.
