The SC Department of Consumer Affairs is warning twitter users to be on the lookout for scams, particularly phishing scams. These are the same types of scams people have seen for years on the internet, just moving to a new medium. The programmers have become very adept in moving to new technology.
One such twitter scam involves someone receiving an email that looks to come from twitter, when you click the link, it takes you to a site that looks exactly like a twitter site. It then asks for your personal information, which it then steals.
The office has not received any reports from twitter users that have become victims to the scams; they are just warning people to be on the lookout.
