WASHINGTON (AP) - Sources close to an investigation into a Buffalo, N.Y., area plane crash that killed 50 people in February say the pilot did not have hands-on training with a critical safety system that was part of the plane.
The sources, who asked not to be named because the National Transportation Safety Board has not yet released the results of investigation, say the pilot had also failed several test rides in aircraft simulators. The pilot's training history was first reported Monday by The Wall Street Journal.
The sources say investigators also found Flight 3407's first officer was suffering from a cold and was probably fatigued. They say she should have told the airline - Manassas, Va.-based Colgan - that she was not in a condition to fly.
The NTSB begins a hearing on the accident on Tuesday.
