Over the last several days, a number of parents have confirmed, older players forcing younger players to the back of the bus, to pull down their pants, and spank them with an open hand.
Spartanburg County deputies have spent the days questioning countless people. They also say they have met with the Solicitor.
School officials say their investigation began when three people approached them with similar stories.
Tony Ivey with the Sheriff's Office say the superintendent contacted the resource office for the school Friday evening, informing the officer he had received numerous phone calls from angry parents about the alleged incidents.
The issue has created a steady debate in the community, from online posts here at WSPA.COM, to people on the streets of Woodruff.
Some have told us, they think the story has been blown out of proportion. "Boys will be boys" one man told us in a shopper center parking lot.
Others, say the young ages of the children at the center of this is a concern.
Others, say the issue of supervision, or apparent lack there of, is the bigger issue. (The Superintendent told us coaches were on the bus when this all happened, but says they failed to see what was going on).
Susan Russell, a local resident told us, "What bothers me is the lack of supervision...if this is going on on a school bus...is it going on in a classroom? What else is happening that we are unaware of in the school systems?"
Resident Susan Hellams said, "Some of the boys take it better than the other boys...they feel like its a ritual...so they are proud to have that done to them...I've heard a lot of them say...'well that happened to me'...and it didn't bother them."
Expect the debate to continue. We look forward to hearing you're comments here!
