No FEMA Money For Abbeville Storm Damage

»  Comments | Post a Comment

City leaders in Abbeville said the damage estimates from the April 10 tornado will not be enough to qualify for FEMA aid, and they are working to find other possible funding options.

Ashley Ramey, Assistant City Manager, said the $400,000 in damage the city experienced has already been paid for out of the city's reserve fund, but now they may have to borrow money to replenish the fund in case of another emergency.

Ramey says combining damages in Abbeville, Union, Greenwood and Aiken Counties still fell about $2 million short of FEMA's $5.3 million requirement for disaster assistance.

"We're working with city leaders now to try to find the best way to replenish the reserve fund, with the least impact to the citizens," said Ramey.

She says the $400,000 in damages include:

$148,000- mutual aid costs
$110,00- material and supplies
$50,000- repairs to sidewalks
$31,000- overtime payments
$15,000- tree removal
$46,000- miscellaneous expenses
