A 7-month-old baby is dead and his father has been charged with homicide by child abuse.
Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton says Ronald (Ronnie) Padgett was charged in the death of his son, Isaiah, Friday.
Newton says the infant died May 5, the same day Padgett was jailed on unrelated charges.
The coroner says his department did an autopsy, and found the child had a two to six week old fractured skull and a dislocated shoulder. He says those injuries didn't contribute to the child's death, but won't release the actual cause.
Newton says no charges have been brought against the baby's mother. He says the investigation is ongoing in both his department and the Newberry Police Department.
Padgett will remain behind bars until he has a bond hearing in general sessions court.
