» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

For the fourth year in a row, one of the Upstate's own made it to the Scripts National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
Keiko Bridwell is an 8th grader at Florence Chapel Middle School in Duncan.
Her principal, Steve Gambrell, said she's a top student in every subject and is a member of the yearbook staff.
Keiko made it to the 21st spot today, before getting knocked out in the semifinals.
Gambrell said, she's coming home a winner.
"It's awesome. To be able to do that 4 years in a row is fantastic. We love Keiko," said Gambrell.
Keiko misspelled the word thylacine. She spelled it thylocine.
And in case you're wondering, it's a rare, dog-like animal from Tasmania, with stripes on its back and is actually believed to be extinct.
You can watch the spelling bee finals Thursday on ESPN, beginning at 8 p.m.
