Mother of Toddler Killed In Crash Talks About Accident

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The mother of a toddler who was killed - after she was thrown from a car is speaking out to News Channel 7.
She tells us 2-year-old Destiny Smith was sitting in between 2 carseats buckled in. One carseat flipped up and an infant flew out the back window. Destiny was not ejected according to her mom... Her head was crushed by the door. She says she tried to give her daughter CPR before the ambulance arrived.

Greenville Police say the crash happened around 9:30 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Pendleton and Academy Streets in Greenville.

All of those who survived the deadly crash are out of the hospital according to the Coroners office.

Greenville Police say they found that baby's car seat on the ground-- and next to it-- the baby-- who's about 3 to 6 months old.

Corporal Jason Rampey with the Greenville Police Department said, "It is a grim reminder that it is the law to use child restraints and child safety seats and when you use them, make sure you use them properly- that they're properly secure in the vehicle and the infant or child is properly secured inside the car seat."

Greenville Police are looking into whether speed and distraction played a part in causing the crash.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether or not any charges will be filed against any of the drivers.

Tuesday night, we heard from Destiny's family.

In a statement, a woman claiming to be the sister in law of the victim's mother told us:

"Destiny will be missed and she was a very smart and pretty little girl. We love her and will see her again one day."

Destiny's mother tells us the children were going with friends to get their ears pierced, when the crash happened. She says Destiny was buckled between two car seats. Her mother says Destiny was not ejected, and she tried to give her CPR before the ambulance arrived.
