The Haywood County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the death of a man found Monday off Panther Creek Road.
Sheriff Bobby Suttles says an arrest warrant was served on Matthew Robert Caldwell, 27, early Wednesday morning. Caldwell is charged with the murder of Jesse Lee Parker, 44, of Clyde, North Carolina.
The sheriff says after interviews his officers obtained a search warrant for Caldwell's home. That led to the arrest.
Parker's body was found some distance from his residence in Clyde.
An autopsy on Parker is being conducted Wednesday in Chapel Hill. Suttles would not say how he beleived the victim died or how long Parker's remains had been off Panther Creek Road before they were found.
We're told there may be other charges filed against Caldwell in the ongoing investigation. Suttles says the State Bureau of Investigation aided his deputies and investigators in making the arrest.
