From Spartanburg School District 3:
Daniel Morgan Technology Center’s (DMTC) 2009 Culinary Competition Team will be featured on Food Network’s coverage of the 2009 National ProStart Invitational. The special, Top of the Class, features the DMTC ProStart students and Guy Fieri, popular Food Network host of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guy’s Big Bite and Ultimate Recipe Showdown. The program is scheduled to air on December 5, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. on The Food Network. The Culinary Competition Team won the state ProStart Competition in January 2009, and placed twelfth at the national competition in April. Students from thirty-seven states and two territories competed in this event. The DMTC Culinary Team was made up of Broome High School students Christina Munoz, Sarah Anthony, Michelle Sawyer, Kayla Scruggs and Tiffany Brown. The ProStart Invitational is composed of separate culinary and management competitions. Winning teams from each of the two events are awarded scholarships to pursue careers in the restaurant and food service industry, and either a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Judges from leading post-secondary institutions and the restaurant and food service industry observe and rate each team’s creative abilities through their preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes.
