For the Tipton men, serving our country is a family affair. Horace Tipton is a World War II Veteran.
Everette Tipton Jr. is a former Marine.
He never saw war, but the wounds run deep.
“We had a helicopter crash upside the hill that killed 2 good pilots,” said Tipton.
Veteran’s like Tipton say, all too often, Veterans Day comes and goes with little acknowledgement from most Americans.
But this year companies like Applebee’s are saying thank you. The chain is offering free entrees to veterans from 10a.m. to midnight Wednesday November 11th.
We'll have 6 signature items that you can choose from including our most popular item which is the house sirloin," said Chris Olson with Applebee’s.
And Applebees isn't the only store offering deals to veterans Lowes is offering Vets a 10% discount on any in-store purchase of up to $5000 through Sunday November 15.
And it's not just for veterans. It's for their immediate families. You just need to show their military I.D.
Home Depot is offering the same 10 percent discount on purchases of $2000 or less.
But unlike Lowe’s that offer ends November 11th at closing.
As for more restaurants, Minnow Creek Cafe in Gaffney is also in on the deals. Veterans eat free tomorrow after 4p.m.
And if you can't make it out Wednesday, The Golden Corral has a free buffet for veterans from 5p.m. to 9p.m. this coming Monday.
"It makes you feel good to recognize it -- knowing that you've done been there, done that and all that kind of stuff," said Horace Tipton.
