**Update Tuesday 8:58 am**
Sue Schneider General Manager of Spartanburg Water says the broken water main was fixed late Monday night. By 4 a.m. all lanes were open on Union Street. Schneider says 15 businesses were without water but all have been restored. There is a metal plate over the road right now. Schneider says the road will be fixed when the weather clears up.
**Monday night**
A major artery into downtown Spartanburg is partially closed due to a water main break. Water began seeping through Union Street about 6:30 Monday evening, causing officials to close Union Street from Forest Avenue to Country Club Road. The break in is an underground 8-inch water line, and officials with the Spartanburg Water System were still working on repairs Tuesday morning. While some lanes are closed, traffic is flowing through the area. Police recommend you allow extra time if traveling through downtown Spartanburg Tuesday.
