CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina fire department is unveiling a new podcast technology it says is the first used by any public safety agency in the state.
The Charleston Fire Department department on Thursday unveils a podcast system allowing it to keep in touch with the media during an emergency. Officials using the system will be able to relay audio clips to the media from mobile phones in minutes.
Charleston has made numerous improvements since the deaths of nine firefighters in a furniture store blaze almost 2½ years ago.
A team of experts that studied the department in the aftermath made 200 recommendations on everything from protective clothing to training and department administration.
