Following their investigation and in consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Asheville Police Department Traffic Safety Unit Officers have determined that no charges will be filed in this incident.
A four-year old boy died Wednesday morning when the child was hit by a vehicle while trying to catch a bus.
Asheville Police say the accident happened on Hendersonville Road near Jeffress Avenue at 6:35a.m. The child was walking with his mother, when he broke away from his parent's hand and ran into the street.
APD spokesperson Melissa Williams says a vehicle headed north in the left lane struck the boy. Williams says weather conditions were poor at the time and the victim was wearing dark clothing.
An Asheville Police officer performed CPR, but the boy suffered a traumatic head injury.
The child's name has not been released. The APD Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the accident.
