Hundreds of people waited in line in the rainy and windy weather to receive their H1N1 flu shot at the Greenville County Health Department.
People started lining up at 3 am Wednesday outside the health department and for the Griner family, the three hour wait was worth it.
"It was cold and wet," said Steve Griner. "It's just a long wait. We just wanted to make sure we're taking care of our children the best we can."
Most of the people waiting had young children and we're waiting to make sure that the vaccination available would help prevent them from contracting the H1N1 virus.
"If they get the disease, there's a secondary infections that can take place," Griner said. "We have friends and know folks that are having serious problems."
Lillian Krider, who wheeled her way along the line for hours, was just one of the many people who decided to make the trip and prevent herself from having many of those same problems others were trying to prevent.
"I gotta get my flu shot," she said. "I'm getting kind of tired, but i'll make it."
The health department had 3,000 shots doses and 2,000 nasal sprays doses available.
"The doctor's didn't have any available no matter where I went or where I called," Krider said. "I could have gotten the swine flu. Here is can get my shot."
So, no matter whether they had to wait in line for most of the day, many people, including the Griner's and Krider, were able to go home protected.
