A 27-year old man is dead after a one car accident Thursday afternoon.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says that Christopher Darren Martin, of Blacksburg, died just after 3 pm after the pick-up truck he was driving went off South Charleston Street and struck a tree stump.
"Mr. Martin was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle's right front wheel went off the pavement on the right side of the road," Fowler said. "Martin overcorrected causing the truck to travel across the center line and then off the left side of the roadway and down a small embankment and into the driveway of an occupied residence. The victim's vehicle plowed into a tree stump that impacted the driver's door, before going airborne and coming to rest right side up headed in the opposite direction."
Martin was trapped inside the pickup truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fowler says he has ordered toxicology results to assist in the investigation.
