A man who police say shot another man in a car, then turned the gun on himself, has died. The shooting happened Friday evening in the parking lot of an Applebees in Hendersonville. Joseph Gaydish died Saturday morning at Mission Hospital from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to investigators, Gaydish, Courtney Bak and Russell Cody Flood were driving around the mall area. Then, from the back seat of the car, Gaydish pulled out a handgun and shot Flood in the head, then turned the gun on himself. Flood died at the scene. According to family members who spoke with the Hendersonville Times-News, Flood had a 4-year-old son. Bak was not injured. The shooting happened about 11pm in the parking lot of the Applebees restaurant.
The screams of Courtney Bak alerted those inside the restaurant that something had happened in the parking lot. Police say that the shooting surprised Bak; there had been no arguments between the three before the shooting, and the three had been friends. "She (Bak) said they were just driving around, talking like friends, then out of the blue, he (Gaydish) shot him (Flood)," Capt. David Adams with Hendersonville Police said. Adams said Gaydish and Bak had been dating, but had broken up several months ago, and Flood was currently dating Bak.
Both victims had young children, according to Captain Adams with Hendersonville Police. He told News Channel 7 Saturday that the shooting appeared to be premeditated. "He brought a gun with him. He shot Flood only 50 feet from his own truck as Bak was getting ready to drop him off. It appears that he had planned it.”
