Greenville deputies are trying to track down a burglar, who they say, has left a trail of broken glass and damage at upstate businesses. Now, they're hoping surveillance video will put 38 year old Joseph Poole behind bars. On camera, deputies say Poole is caught trying to smash the window at the Garden Spot on Altamonte Road, and then taking off. Brian Lindsey recognizes the getaway car. It's the same one, he says was stolen from his Traveler's Rest Tire and Muffler Shop, just days before. "He broke in my front window, came inside the building, and got in a Nissan Pathfinder," the owner says. "He cranked it up, throwed it in reverse and backed it right through the door. Hadn't seen him since." The unwelcomed visitor left behind thousands in damage, including a broken garage door and sign. Lindsey says he even ripped down security camera wires on his way out.
Deputies are now trying to link Poole to at least three other burglaries, hoping the video will bring him in. "With the public's help, any additional information they can offer, we hope to end these cases soon," says Master Deputy Melissia McKinney with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Back at the shop, Lindsey did get that car back. It was recovered on the side of the road several days later. Still, he says the damage is a reminder of a night he'd like to forget. "I'm married, got two kids, and trying to support them. Stuff like this happens, and it hurts," he says. "Especially at Christmas time." Now, he has a new notice on his door for future burglars. It reads: "Do yourself a favor. Rob someone else."
Deputies ask anyone who knows of Poole's whereabouts to call Crimestoppers at (864) 23-CRIME.
