An Upstate rescue squad--under investigation for misuse of taxpayer dollars--suspends itself!
At a special meeting of Anderson County government Monday night, the Honea Path Rescue Squad's board of directors volunteered a 30 day suspension of its contract with the county pending the outcome of the investigation against their squad.
The investigation heated up as well. Anderson County EMS officials also telling News Channel 7---computers were seized by police at the rescue squad Monday.
This all comes after Honea Path police say they are investigating the squad for alleged misuse of taxpayer money--using a credit card to pay for internet dating sites and other non-work related items. Its unclear who exactly made the charges.
During the suspension period, the Honea Path employees will be assigned to other neighboring departments, to serve the people of that community.
EMS says there will be no change in response times.
Everyone will meet again in 30 days to decide how to proceed next.
The county EMS Director is technically in charge of the rescue squad as of Monday night.
Anderson County was giving $25,000 a month to the squad. The rescue squad services a 40-mile radius and several thousand residents.
