News Channel 7 has learned that the Chief of the embattled Honea Path Rescue Squad has resigned.
Sources tell News Channel that Chief Tommy Crawford turned in his resignation Thursday afternoon. A Board of Directors meeting was held Thursday night and it was not immediately known what matters were discussed. A second source says that employees of the Honea Path Rescue Squad had been notified of Crawford's resignation, but they were not sure if an interime replacement would be named.
The Honea Path Rescue Squad is being investigated for alleged misuse of credit cards and taxpayer money relating to several charges for online dating services and other questionable expenditures. Honea Path Police Chief David King says that the investigation concerning the credit cards and questionable spending has been expanded and they have not found any indication or evidence of credit card fraud from outside the squad.
