Ninety-two warrants of ill treatment of animals have been issued each for Wade and Faith Patterson, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. The couple was adopting dogs from the county shelter and bringing them home to be part of their "rescue group."
Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies seized 177 dogs, one cat and one bird from a local residence during an investigation of a maltreatment of animals complaint.
On Wednesday, November 18, investigators responded to the Bagwell Road location and executed a search warrant to inspect the grounds. Upon arrival, they discovered several dog carcasses on the property, along with numerous malnourished dogs and dogs living in inhumane conditions.
Ona Bagwell says she heard barking coming from her neighbor's home, but had no idea so many animals were living there. "I can't believe it why in the world would they want all of them?" she said.
Deputies say there was a related complaint, against 36 year old Faith Patterson. Patterson is the estranged spouse of an Anderson Public Safety employee. At that point, the sheriff’s office was asked to conduct the investigation.
Faith Patterson declined to speak to News Channel 7, but did say she didn't understand why her animals were taken away from her.
The animals were seized and taken to the Animal Shelter for safekeeping and thorough examinations.
No charges have been filed. Investigators say they will pursue charges once a veterinarian examines each animal.
Deputies are trying to determine the person or persons responsible for the feeding and boarding of the animals.
Anderson County Animal Shelter is in need of puppy food to help nurse the sick dogs back to health. If you like to donate, just stop by their office at 615 Highway 28 Bypass in Anderson.
