A new study says South Carolina is the third most dangerous state to live in, in the country.
The study, sponsored by the CQ Press, compiles crime stats from across the United States.
South Carolina came in as third most dangerous state and we ranked first in assaults.
Crime experts say our increasing drug and gang problems, along with a high unemployment rate, have pushed us up the list.
"Because more people are at home, they're unemployed, because they have families they have to feed. They are looking for alternatives and unfortunately that is why our crime rate has increased. That's my opinion, that's what i see happening," Carolinas Institute for Community Policing Director Lynda Leventis-Wells said.
North Carolina ranked 33rd safest and Georgia came in at 39th.
