The busiest travel day of the Thanksgiving holiday arrives on Wednesday. Travelers can expect more cars on the roads in South Carolina. AAA Carolinas expects 569,000 people in the Palmetto State will travel more than 50 miles from home, which is up by 2.3% from a year ago.
The increase is the same in North Carolina where one million people are expected to be on the roads and interstates.
More drivers will pay more to travel. The average price of gas is up 63 cents a gallon from Thanksgiving 2008.
There will also be more state troopers on the road, especially around the Interstate 26 and Interstate 95 interchange near Orangeburg.
Flights are generally less expensive this year, but they will be packed despite fewer fliers. Air travel is expected to descrease 6.7 percent. Analysts blame the economy. According to Microsoft's 'Bing Travel' the average Thanksgiving fare is $351 dollars. Most carriers have pushed through a $10 fare increase last month.
Officials at GSP International Airport say air passengers should arrive early for flights to allow more time to get through security lines.
