One man has been arrested after a dispute over a woman ended with a shooting Saturday night in Spartanburg.
Deputies arrested 52-year old Charles Edward Gory, of Spartanburg, and charged him with assault and battery with intent-to-kill as a result of the incident, which happened just before 8 pm at a home on Union Street.
According to Spartanburg County Sheriff's spokesman Tony Ivey, deputies responded after they received a call about a prowler at the home. When they arrived they found Gory and 43-year old Lafayette Taylor injured as a result of a dispute over a woman they both have interest in.
Ivey says that Gory had taken a shotgun from his home and walked to Taylor's residence and confronted and shot Taylor. Ivey said the shotgun had "bird shot" in it and the wounds sustained by Taylor was non-life threatening. However, Taylor defended himself by assaulting Gory and beating him with both fists.
Both men had to be transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment to their injuries. Gory was released from the hospital and is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
