COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's attorney general says he'll return thousands of dollars in campaign donations from private lawyers he hired to do state work.
Attorney General Henry McMaster said Friday he would return $32,500 he has received over the past seven years from five attorneys he has hired to work on cases for the state.
That money also includes contributions from the attorneys' law firms.
Last week, McMaster said he wouldn't return contributions he got from two attorneys after he hired them to work on a lawsuit against drug maker Eli Lilly. McMaster said he did nothing wrong in receiving the donations.
State ethics investigators have said the contributions were illegal since they came after McMaster hired the attorneys.
