If you hear thunder in Cherokee County Saturday it might not be the weather, but instead motorcyclists traveling from Virginia with a cause.
They are making the trip to honor Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes who died last month from the injuries he received in Afghanistan.
According to organizers, the veteran motorcycle group "Rolling Thunder" found out that the Bank of America on Floyd Baker Blvd. in Gaffney had removed temporary flags from in front of their branch that had been placed there to line the route Fowlkes's body was supposed to take.
The bank has since apologized and said it was a misunderstanding and put the flags back the same day.
Even so, the veterans took the actions personally and want to add some extra honor to Fowlkes's ultimate sacrifice. On their trip they will be getting fellow veterans and other citizens to sign both American and Marine flags and once in Gaffney they will give them to Chris’s dad.
Bank of America released this statement Friday: "We embrace the support for Lance Cpl. Christopher Fowlkes and his family. We hope this caravan will help bring the focus back to where it should be - on the men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our country."
"Rolling Thunder" should arrive in Gaffney Saturday afternoon 3:30 and 4:30. The flags will be presented to Chris’s father at the Veterans Park on Logan Street.
