A ceremony at the statehouse Tuesday will honor victims of domestic violence in South Carolina. Attorney General Henry McMaster calls domestic violence the state's number one crime problem. McMaster will call out the name of each fatal domestic violence
victim killed in the past year, and a bell will be rung once for each person.
Family members and volunteers will carry silhouettes representing victims who've lost their lives in the last year.
South Carolina ranks eighth in the nation in the rate of murder of women killed by men. The Violence Policy Center report showed 46 homicides involving women in the state in 2007.
This is an improvement over prior years when South Carolina had the second highest rate per capita. North carolina ranks 11th in the new study.
