Anderson Mother Thanks City Firefighters

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

An Anderson mother is thanking city firefighters today for a children's fire education class which was put to the test last month when her kitchen caught fire, and her 5 year old son knew how to escape the smoke.
Brittany McKee says she and her son, Jaxon, went through the Anderson City Fire Department's "Mommy and Me" tour about a year and a half ago. But McKee says when the smoke detector went off Sept. 29, Jaxon instantly jumped up yelling as loud as he could "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE," came through the smoke on his hands and knees to get his dad and ran out the door away from the house.
"Thank you so much for all that you do, and don't ever think for a minute that the kids aren't "getting" it...they do," wrote McKee in an email of thanks to firefighters.
"I want them to know what a wonderful job they do each and everyday and what a wonderful impact they make on these kids."
McKee will be at the fire department this afternoon to thank the firefighters in person. Get more on this story and hear from her tonight on News Channel 7 at 5:30.

The Anderson City Fire Department, like most local fire departments in the Upstate, also offers free smoke detectors for your home. Contact them at 864-231-2256 if you do not have a working smoke detector.
