Deputy Fights Suspect -- Caught On Tape

» 5 Comments | Post a Comment

Spartanburg Co. Sheriff Chuck Wright says a deputy went into the "First Cash Pawn Shop" to go after a theft suspect who allegedly shoplifted from the nearby Dollar General store on Asheville Highway, Tuesday. The incident, which was caught on tape, shows the suspect trying to escape from the deputy while he was being cuffed. A lengthy fight then began. The store owner and the deputy both tried to wrestle the suspect, who put up a fight lasting nearly 6 minutes.

The deputy was able to get control, and cuff the man. Backup and EMS soon arrived, and the man was taken to jail. The deputy injured his head and was exhausted by the incident, but was otherwise ok.

The suspect, Edward Lee Beason, 24, is facing multiple charges.

Beason has a long rap sheet, dating back to 2003, for robberies, at least one of them violent.

Sheriff Wright says more needs to be done on the state level to reduce the number of repeat offenders walking back onto the streets and causing cases like this.
