Deer Vs. Car Crashes Expected To Increase As Fall Arrives

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Wednesday night, a Pacolet woman died after the motorcycle she was riding hit a 6-point-buck.

It happened on Highway 176 in Union County.

That accident likely wont be the last according to officials.

The Department of Natural Resources tells us this is the start of the breeding and hunting season--meaning driver vs. deer collisions are expected to rise.

DNR says the only reliable precaution: slow down.

Sgt. Gary Wilson with DNR, says, "Once you see one cross the road dont feel like the road is clear, go ahead and put your brakes on and slow down until you pass that point."

DNR says as the state's human population increases and more people move to the country--the increase in commuting traffic, increases the deer-human encounters.

SC Public Safety reported nearly 2-thousand deer-vehicle collisions in 2008.
