A Chesnee woman has been arrested after police say she abused a young child.

Gena Lynn Grigg, of Chesnee, was arrested Friday by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with unlawful neglect of a helpless person.

According to our coverage partners with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the child's mother told deputies that Grigg, who operates a daycare, has taken care of the two-year old child for about a year and observed bruises on the child's chest, neck and head. The mother told officers that she did not send the child back for two days, but placed a digital recorder in the child's bag and reportedly it recorded Grigg using profanity, threatening to break the child's toe and saying she "hates" the child.

Grigg has been released on $10,000 bond from the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
