PIEDMONT — Flames destroyed a two-story house in Piedmont Friday night.
At least 50 firefighters from several departments fought the blaze. One firefighter was reported to have been sent to a hospital, but has been treated and released.
The wood-frame house was in a ravine beside Highway 86 at the Anderson County line, and the smoke from the fire was drifting low across the highway.
At 10 p.m. the frame of the house was still standing, but some of the roof had burned and the interior was destroyed.
Firefighters were still pumping water around and into the structure. Firefighting teams manned hoses around three corners of the house. They had the fire controlled but it was not yet out.
The Piedmont Fire Department says that the investigation into how the fire started is still on-going.
