PICKENS, S.C. (AP) - A report says drinking water from a South Carolina lake that's part a federal case over PCB contamination cleanup has no detectable traces of the chemical.

The Greenville News reported Tuesday tests from the Department of Health and Environmental Control show no discernible levels of PCBs in treated water from systems that draw water from Lake Hartwell.

Three decades ago, PCBs were released into Twelve Mile Creek, which eventually flows into the lake.

Work began this week on restoring the creek by removing two dams and sediment behind them.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reported a hearing was scheduled Tuesday in federal court to get an update on the removal of the dams and the cleanup efforts.
