GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Supreme Court has dismissed disciplinary charges against a lawyer once accused of making misleading promises in his ads.
The Greenville News reported Tuesday that the high court denied an appeal by the Office of Disciplinary Council seeking to reprimand Joel Bieber. The justices said Bieber's statement in the ad wasn't a guarantee, just a statement of his role as advocate on behalf of a client.
The investigation into the ad started with an anonymous complaint by someone who said Bieber's ads left the impression that hiring him meant a client wouldn't lose their job. Bieber agreed to stop running the ad, but argued the ad said he would work to protect a job without offering any guarantees.
