The Union County Council met late Tuesday afternoon to discuss how it will move forward after the county supervisor was indicted, and the county clerk resigned, his office now under SLED investigation.
The Union County Legislative Delegation also met with the council to come up with recommendations to fill Donnie Betenbaugh and Brad Morris' positions. The Governor is the one to designate an interim supervisor, but Gov. Sanford said he will hold off until he hears what the people and lawmakers from Union County have to say.
The county has been in the spotlight since federal indictments were handed down against Betenbaugh, and former Tax Assessor Willie Randall Jr.,and former Sheriff Howard Wells earlier this month.
SLED is now investigating the clerk of court's office about alleged irregularities with child support payments.
The Solicitor handling that case, told us that SLED audit is still in the works.
He also added, he spoke with the US Attorney, and they both say, they do not anticipate further indictments or arrests, unless new evidence comes to light.
