An Asheville man is accused of shooting his neighbors dog in the victim's yard while children were playing at the time.
The Bu County Sheriff's Office charged Terry Lane Freck, 65, with assault with a deadly weapon, damage to personal property and cruelty to animals.
The pet survived the shooting. The owner of the dog says the dog was shot with birdshot from a shotgun.
A neighbor tell News Channel Seven the dog was hit in the chest and the tongue. That neighbor also says a 4-year-old child was standing next to dog when it was shot.
The incident report says deputies were called to a home on Wright Road around 3:00pm on October 6. The deputy says Freck shot into the neighbor's yard and wounded a dog.
Jennifer Iniguez sats her four year old nephew was splattered by the dogs blood. "He's very traumatize. He can't sleep. He says the man in his sleep is going to get him," Iniguez said. She says six children total witnessed the shooting.
Investigators have not released a motive. "To be honest, that's a question I don't have an answer to. I really don't know why," Iniguez said.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports Freck was released under a $6,000 unsecured bond.
