Greer City Council voted Tuesday to annex property at Highway 101 and Reidville Road.

It was the first reading of the measure, but two more readings will be needed.

Greer Assistant City Administrator Mike Sell tells News Channel 7, the city plans to annex 39 acres and zone it as highway commercial property.

Carolina Holdings Inc. plans to put a shopping center there called "Crossroads Plaza", which includes a grocery store and other shops.

The move comes after years of political battles and litigation.

A public zoning hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday.
