Piedmont Park Fire Chief Tim Cobb says a 16 year old boy was burned over 40 percent of his body. The family has traveled to Joseph M. Still Burn Center. Cobb says the Greenville County sheriff’s arson team is investigating wants to talk to the boy, when he is able, to find out what he was doing in the garage at that time of the morning.
Fire chief Tim Cobb says the boy was burned over 58-percent of his body. The teen had surgery on one of his legs Monday and was scheduled to have surgery on his other leg Tuesday.
Fire officials say they don't believe the fire is suspicious.
Monday morning
Crews from the Piedmont Park Fire Department were on the scene of a fire that sent a teen to the hospital. Firefighters were called to a home at 503 Piedmont Park Road in Greenville County just before three o'clock Monday morning. News Channel 7's photographer caught video of smoke coming from the rear of the house, while EMS was leaving the scene. The fire appears to have spread from a garage or outbuilding to the home.
Investigators have not released any information about the victim's condition. They are searching for a cause of the flames and smoke.
