As the holidays inch closer, prices at big box stores like WalMart are dropping. Tammy Bower, a single mother, says she can really use the break, stating that she’ll be “saving almost five dollars” in games. Bower states, “I’m out of work, not working, and it makes it a lot easier to shop for me, where we can at least know we can get them something.” She’s relieved to hear that, this week, WalMart is kicking off what it calls “unprecedented” sales.
Here are the details, you decide. WalMart Supervisor Vikash Guatam says, “In the toy department alone we’re looking at over one hundred items such as the Colorblasters or boardgames; including Trouble, Operation and Sorry; are all going to between ten and fifteen dollars.” There will be nearly three dollars off Bakugan Trap toys for the kids and ten dollars off of the Razer Ripstick Skateboard.
The price cuts aren’t just in the gift aisle. Ground beef is down 26 percent and chewable Vitamin C is dropping 60 percent. The most popular item in the store, bananas, have been slashed by 27 percent. The price drops are based on what sells the most and also what WalMart thinks is a bigger customer need.
Another customer, Margaret Hunsucker, says, “Everything I can get a little bit cheaper, I’ll do it.”
WalMart has the bulk of the deals going on in the holiday season so far, but other stores like Target say they’ll match those prices if you bring in a flyer and show it in print. But make sure that flyer isn’t clipped so the store can verify that it’s current by checking the date. Target also says you’ll find sales in their flyers, and should expect to see more in the stores in the coming weeks.
