The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office is trying to find those responsible for the death of a woman in a drive-by shooting late Tuesday night. Joy Vivonia Mack, 42, from Greenville was pronounced dead at the scene by the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office at 1:24 a.m. after the shooting at 4041 Tacco Court. Family members say Mack was visiting her sick son, when the shooting happened. "It was just a boom boom boom boom! That's all we heard," says neighbor Mary Scruggs. "Then Jay, her son, run to the door and said, Mama's been shot! Mama's been shot!"
Mack's brother, Tim Stephens, tells Newschannel 7 that after a long battle with substance abuse, Mack has just recently turned her life around. "She got a whole lot happier, you could see it in her. She was doing so good, then this tragedy here." Deputies are talking to witnesses, and tracking leads, but so far, there have been no arrests. Family members think Mack was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. "It's sensless," Stephens says. "I hate she left this soon. She had so many plans."
Deputies ask that anyone who may have information about this case to call CrimeStoppers at (864) 58-CRIME.
