CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina is calling for prayer as the diocese considers its position with the national church.
Bishop Mark Lawrence called on clergy and laity in the diocese to spend Friday in fasting and prayer asking for God's guidance.
The diocese holds a special convention Saturday in Mount Pleasant to consider a resolution distancing itself from the national Episcopal Church because of national church positions on same-sex unions and ordination of gays.
The diocese is comprised of 75 parishes with about 30,000 members in the southern and eastern part of the state.
